Continued. Pictures of Beast Wars original beasts, early Japanese Beast Wars, Fuzors and Beast Wars Second toys can be found here.
Purpose of this site is to offer good, big pictures of transformers with animal alt mode. On this site BW Transmetals, BW Transmetals2, BW Mutants, BW Fox Kids, BW 10th Anniversary, Beast Wars Neo, Beast Wars Metals, Beast Machines, Beast Wars Returns, BM Dinobots, Robots in Disguise, Armada, Dinobots, Universe, Energon, Alternators, Robotmasters, Cybertron.
There is also basic information of toylines and notes what toys were available in Europe and more precisely Nordic countries; Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
About pictures. I've tried taking different kind of pictures and sometimes transformed the toys a bit different than in the instructions. If I have more than one version of a mold, individual pictures are shown in the series it was released, but the comparison pictures are placed below the first release. My collection is far from complete and for more information I'd recommend checking links from the first site.

Personally I like most of the toys in this line. Unfortunately metallic paint chips off quite easily and one has to be careful when transforming the toys.

Hasbro Nordic stopped importing Transformers toys in Nordic countries after the first wave. Some batches of Beast Machines toys were seen in some stores later on, but those were stores' own imports. After this Transformers toys were not be available in wider distribution in Nordic countries until the start of Armada line. You can check information of US releases from Tfarchive.
Maximal toys were generally a disappointment for most people, and I haven't been that impressed either despite the few excellent molds. Slowly I've started to appreciate the line more. Vehicon toys are in general more to my liking and though some of those have no beast mode, I've taken pictures of those as well.

Armada toys proved to sell better than expected. Hasbro decided to release slightly modified, to make possible the idea behind minicons linking to bigger robots, Beast Wars Transmetals molds because of high demand. New animal molds were not made for Armada.
Hasbro Nordic did import Rhinox and Terrorsaur, but three other "Armada beasts" weren't available in Nordic Europe. The reason for this is Hasbro Nordic's irritating habit to skip late waves of series to make room for the next main line, in this case Energon.

Dinobots are somehow supposed to be Dinobots from the original series, but with little success. Wrong dinosaur modes for, copyrights for some names lost being the biggest reasons. Hasbro also decided to replace "dinobot spark crystals" used in BM Dinobots with ugly autobot symbols and even worse put clearly visible symbols on the dinosaur modes.

For some reason Hasbro has decided to change maximals and predacons to autobots and decepticons. Irritating detail is that spark crystals are covered with uglier autobot or decepticon symbols. A somewhat comical thing about Razorclaw (decepticon) is the visible molded maximal symbol in decepticon's chest while the hidden maximal spark crystal is covered with a decepticon symbol.

I had to consider if Sharkticon fits the animal theme, but decided to include it in the end. Deluxe sized decepticon, so Sharkticon like other decepticons has "hypemode".
Also ultra-sized Scorponok must be considered having an animal alternate mode. Animal characteristics are pretty well hidden though, and Scorponok's alt modes are more like an alien construction vehicle and an aeroplane than an animal. Scorponok's design is a nod to original series same named character.
Few toys are based on characters that had animal modes in the original series. Battle Ravage even has a jaguar head, which is based on his appearance in Beast Wars cartoon.

Beast Wars, Transmetals
Transmetal toys appeared to stores at the same time with fuzors and unlike unlike original beasts were metallic animals that transformed into robots. As a new thing toys were triplechangers and had also vehicle mode, which unfortunately are in many cases rather poor. Thematically toys are closer to original toys from 80's and early 90's and are quite popular. Of course many great molds are part of the reason for the popularity of transmetals.
Basic sized transmetal toys weren't made, but some of the original beast were rereleased in "transmetal" colours and card and sold as transmetals. Claw Jaw and Spittor released only in some parts of Europe, not in Nordic countries, and included a VHS-tape showing an episode from the second season of cartoon.

Beast Wars, Transmetals2
Transmetal toys proved to be more popular than fuzors and Hasbro continued the line to that direction. Concept was changed a little and the next wave of toys was called Transmetals2. In practice this meant that with smaller toys third modes were abandoned and more was focused on small details. Toys also became "mutated" and were not symmetric, for example animal mode's sides were different. Transmetalss line was the first one to carry "spark crystals" as a faction symbol.

The second wave of deluxes wasn't originally sold in Nordic countries, as Hasbro Nordic has an irritating tendency to skip the latest releases from lines. This batch included all the transmetals2 (except Wal-Mart store exclusive Tripredacus Agent) and some Beast Machines deluxes. Tigerhawk is actually a combination fuzor and transmetal gimmicks. Tigerhawk is an amalgam of two old characters Airazor (hawk) and Tigatron (tiger) with transmetal2 properties. The way I look at it, Tigerhawk has three modes: robot, "tiger" (land) and "hawk" (aerial attack mode). Animal modes aren't "pure" and for example "tiger" mode has hawk's hind legs.

Mutants were characters that didn't have robot mode, but two animal modes. Robots were sort of trapped in their mutated bodies and the hidden robot head is supposed to show that. These toys were released very late in Beast Wars line and were not sold in Nordic countries. Mutants seem to be rare in North America as well and I have had trouble finding toys from this line.

Beast Wars Neo
Beast Wars Neo was second line aimed exclusively to Japanese and Asian market. What makes this line more interesting than it's predecessor is the fact that most of the molds are new instead of repaints. Molds are also imaginative and well designed. Many of my favourite BW molds can be found from this line. Luckily for western transformers fans Hasbro has later released many of the molds in different sublines.

Beast Machines
Beast Machines was Hasbro's new transformers line after Beast Wars and as a series it had a different theme. The concept of cartoon was a battle between organic and technology on Cybetron. Maximals had become even more organic and were a mix of technology and organics, thus the term techno-organic. Predacons were no more and were replaced by Vehicons, purely mechanical robots, lead by Megatron. There are some exceptions though, but those have an explanation in cartoon's storyline.
Deployers were slightly smaller than basic sized toys. Deployers had no robotmode and they transformed from techno-organic animals to weapons. Toys were released as two different colour schemes.

Beast Wars Returns
Originally Takara didn't release Beast Machines toys or cartoon in Japan. In year 2005 the series and some of the toys were released under title "Beast Wars Returns". Toys were released exclusively in "Toys R Us" stores and are hard to find and expensive outside Japan. Thanks to a NTFA member spending his exchange student year in Japan I have few toys from the line.
Takara modified colour schemes on smaller toys to be more show accurate. Unfortunately the same didn't happen with mega sized toys. but not with mega sized toys. Below you can see pictures of recoloured toys I have, which isn't very many. More detailed information of toys released in this line can be found from TFArchive listing.

"Robots in Disguise" was originally a Japanese "Car Robots" line that Hasbro decided to release as well. Toys in this line were a mix of new and old molds and featured robots transforming to both animals and vehicles. At least for now only toys with animal modes are included here.

Transformers Armada
"Transformers Armada" was the next mainline after "Robots in Disguise". In many ways Armada was a return to the past, but with a new twist. On the side of old and familiar Autobot and Decepticon factions was invented a group small robots called "Minicons". Robots transformed to vehicles again and animals were left out of the series.

Dinobots were rereleases of old Beast Wars and Beast Wars Neo molds in new colours. Toys were sold in two-packs (basic and deluxe sized toy) and on similar cards that was used for Armada toys. Before starting to use "Transformers Universe" line for repaints, Hasbro had released recoloured toys in their older "Robots in Disguise" line. In a way "Transformers Dinobots" can be considered a transition between those lines. "Transformers Dinobots" were Wal-Mart (US chain store) exclusives and were not available in Europe.

"Transformers Energon" is successor to "Transformers Armada" and in this line Hasbro and Takara released also new molds that had an animal alternate mode. Cybertron
Transformers Cybertron is Hasbro's mainline after Transformers Energon. Animal transformers are present also in this line, this time them being robots from Jungle planet. Some are clearly just robots with animal alternate modes, but there are signs of others being partly organic as well. The gimmick for this line is "cyber keys" that activate special functions in toys. This time animals are released in most sizes, but at least so far I only have smaller molds.
